GIRLS' FOOTBALL
GIRLS' FOOTBALL | We won some, we drew some, we lost some, but that’s not too important.
Our primary girl footballers today entertained three teams from Hawick Primary Cluster on the 3G Pitch. Thank you to Hawick for making the journey down.
All the girls tried their hardest and were brilliant today. Did you enjoy it? “Yes we did!” they shouted unanimously. Do you want to do it again? “Yes we do!” they shouted unanimously. That’s the important thing!!! 
Fingers crossed our new team strips arrive next week.

The primary girls have now been invited to take part in a Borders Girls Football Festival in Hawick at the end of June and our secondary girls have a possible fixture lined up against Annan Athletic on the 3G Pitch, also in June.

SPRINT RELAY WINNERS!
ANNANDALE AND ESKADLE PRIMARY SCHOOLS SPRINT RELAY FINALS 2022 | Fantastic turn out for tonight’s Annandale and Eskdale Primary Schools Sprint Relay Finals at the Everholm Running Track in Annan. 
There were 48 teams in total and well done to every single child who took part today. Great effort and enthusiasm was shown by all those that took part. 
Thank you to all the schools, teachers, parent helpers, volunteers, and young sports leaders. We couldn’t run these events without all your support.

Queen's Platinum Jubilee gifts
Canonbie Primary would like to thank Canonbie and District Community Council for kindly donating each child a gift bag to celebrate the Jubilee-a big thank-you to Deirdre Burnet. Special thanks also to Andrew Scott at Canonbie Post Office for gifting a commemorative 50p coin. Children enjoyed party games in their House teams and a treasure hunt. Well done!
Canonbie Youth Work Clubs
The Youth Work Service started a new gaming group in Canonbie Public hall, and will running a Young chefs group for P7/S1 pupils.
The young chefs group will be a maximum of 8 young people (3 pupils are already signed up).
Please see attached a link for people to register for the young chefs as it is limited spaces, it will be a case of first to sign up will get a space. For those who wish to attend the gaming group there is no need to register.

All groups are free and food made will be able to be taken home.
If the young person is 12 and under Youth Work ask a parent drops them off to complete the required registration paperwork on their first visit.
STEM activities
On Friday 7th February two tractors turned up at Canonbie Primary School; one shiny new Massey Ferguson and one 1970s Massey Ferguson. It was a great opportunity for P4/5 to explore the latest technologies and consider the ways in which they have developed and undertake some STEM based activities. Many thanks to RHET, Mr Imrie, Carrs of Annan and Mr Young for making this possible.
Community support for Canonbie

SUPER 4 SUCCESS
ANNANDALE AND ESKDALE PRIMARY SCHOOLS SUPER 4’S (RACE 1) – BOYS 1500m | Another great turn out for the boys first race of this year’s Super 4’s. 
Well done to everybody for completing the course in heavy conditions.

GIRLS FOOTBALL
GIRLS FIRST FOOTBALL MATCH | Following a fantastic response to the girl’s football sessions we started last November, the primary school girls made their eagerly anticipated debut this evening on the school 3G pitch. 
We welcomed a girls’ team from Gretna Youth Academy (with three boys to make up the numbers) to play friendly games and, with enough girls playing football in Langholm, we were able to field three 7-aside teams with a substitute and make it a four-team round-robin event.
The girls aged between P5 – P7 have only been training for three months and in this short time have shown great effort, dedication and made great progress. And for that reason, there was no expectation on them other than to try their best and enjoy the games. All three teams performed admirably however, Gretna Youth Academy ran out eventual winners of the round robin competition that finished with an entertaining goalless final game and the girls asking who they are playing next !!!!
Thank you to Gretna Youth Academy for bringing their teams tonight and sports leaders for refereeing.
Our S1/S2 team are looking forward to playing in Dumfries on Tuesday in the first round of the Spar Future Stars Football Tournament which has pathways to national finals.
And such has been the success of the girl’s football we are currently working on a strip design for the junior and senior teams, and we are very grateful for the offer of potential sponsorship from a local business.
Funding has been secured to keep the girls football sessions free of charge and the majority of the girls are looking forward to a trip to Hampden Park on Tuesday 12th April to watch Scotland v Spain ladies in a World Cup Qualifying Match. A Spanish team that includes Alexia Putellas, the current UEFA Women's Player of the Year, 2021 Women's Ballon d'Or Winner and captain of the current Champions League Winners, Barcelona. 
Cluster Staff Wellbeing event
Our Cluster teaching staff had a great afternoon playing bowls after school today. This was the first time our staff have came together in-person from the schools in over 2 years and a great time was had by all. Special thanks to Langholm New Town Bowling Club for hosting us, and congratulations to Mr Little and Mr Wood, novices in the sport but overall winners on the day!
