Business Management and Legal Studies
Business Management and Legal Studies is a single-teacher department run by Mr Clement JP. The department offers courses from S1 to S6.

S1 ICT course (two periods per week):
The course is split into two units.
Unit 1 is based around the SQA Technologies – Broad General Education mapping to National 3 and National 4 Administration and IT document and linking to TCH 3-08a. It focusses on Spreadsheets, Databases, Word and PowerPoint. There is plenty of practice on each with progression from basic to more challenging tasks.
Unit 2 is based around the SQA Technologies – Broad General Education mapping to National 3 and National 4 Administration and IT document and linking to TCH 3-08a. It focusses on Spreadsheets, Databases, Word and PowerPoint. This is a progression from unit 1 and is set up as 8 mini projects.

S3 National 4 Business Management (three periods a week):
Business in Action
In this Unit, pupils will carry out activities that will give them an appreciation of how and why businesses develop and operate in today’s society. Pupils will develop skills and knowledge and understanding relating to the role of business and entrepreneurship within society, and of the actions taken by business to meet customers’ needs. Pupils will discover how businesses are organised by exploring the functional activities, such as marketing, finance, operations and human resources, and applying their understanding of these areas to support business planning and decision making.
Influences on Business
In this Unit, pupils will carry out activities that will give them an appreciation of the impact that a range of internal and external influences has on business decision making. Pupils will investigate stakeholders’ influence on businesses and will acquire skills and knowledge and understanding relating to the financial, economic, competitive and social environment in which businesses have to operate. This will provide learners with a growing understanding of how these influences can affect business survival and success.
Added Value Unit: Business Assignment
In this Unit, pupils will draw on and apply the skills, knowledge and understanding they have gained from across the other units of the course. This will be demonstrated by an assignment. The criteria for the assignment will be sufficiently flexible and open to allow for a degree of personalisation and choice as to the aspect of business to be investigated and how the findings may be presented.

The National 5 Business Management course helps candidates develop an understanding of the economic and financial environment in which businesses operate. This enables them to make an effective contribution to society as consumers, employees, employers or self-employed people.

Legal Studies
The National Progression Award (NPA) in Legal Studies has been developed with the purpose of providing candidates with the basic legal skills and knowledge required for further study and/or employment where a basic understanding of the law may enhance career prospects.
Specific aims of the NPA in Legal Studies at SCQF level 6 are to:
- Develop candidates’ knowledge and understanding of the role of the law.
- Provide candidates with the opportunity to develop relevant core skills for legal related occupations and further study.
