National 5 Physics
Studying Physics at National 5 level gives candidates an insight into the underlying nature of our world and its place in the universe. From the sources of the energy we use, to the exploration of space, it covers a range of applications of the relationships that have been discovered through experiment and calculation, including those used in modern technology. An experimental and investigative approach is used to develop knowledge and understanding of physics concepts.
This course covers Physics concepts in a range of concepts making it suitable to be applied to medicine, engineering, architecture and all kinds of other careers. Even if you think your future may not at all be Science based, a qualification in Physics shows that you are logical and can solve problems easily.
The course takes a skills based learning approach and consists of the following units:
- Dynamics In this area, the topics covered are: vectors and scalars; velocity–time graphs; acceleration; Newton’s laws; energy; projectile motion.
- Space In this area, the topics covered are: space exploration; cosmology.
- Electricity In this area, the topics covered are: electrical charge carriers; potential difference (voltage); Ohm’s law; practical electrical and electronic circuits; electrical power.
- Properties of matter In this area, the topics covered are: specific heat capacity; specific latent heat; gas laws and the kinetic model.
- Waves In this area, the topics covered are: wave parameters and behaviours; electromagnetic spectrum; refraction of light.
- Radiation In this area, the topic covered is nuclear radiation

Here you can find timelines anmd homework. Please use teams to access your workbooks, problem booklets and revision notes.
All candiates have full login details to Scholar - an online National 5 Physics course which they can run along side the one they recieve in school. In the event of school closure (lockdown, COVID 19 or adverse weather, it is requested that pupils continue with their learning through this course.
Included here are the past papers dating back to 2014, also the questions divided into unit by unit if that is easier for your revision. Try it both ways.
Mr. Drummond has added more resources to the class Team - make sure you have a look!
