S2 Physics
In S2 we study the Sciences in discrete subjects. Physics is taught in LAB B. You have one period of Physics per week.
We cover a range of expereience and outcomes in the Broad General Education Science and topics in S2 Physics are:
- Waves
- Electricity
- Forces
- Light
(This Year the Forces unit is being moved from the end of the S1 Science course and is being redeveloped, so it will be covered last)
SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE
As well as learning all the topics you will gain expereience in
- planning and carrying out experiments;
- thinking about the results and being able to describe physical effects, including how they affect people and the environment;
- solving everyday problems using physics knowledge and making predictions.
You will develop skills for learning, life and work such as handling information, analysing and evaluating
Waves
In this topic you'll investigate how waves can be measured and how this relates to the sounds we hear and how loudness is measured. You'll also find out about a family of waves called the electromagnetic spectrum and investigate how they are both useful and dangerous to humans.
Forces
In this topic you'll start investigating the physics behind movement. You'll learn what a force is and does and then move on to look at special forces such as friction, gravitational force and upthrust.
Electricity
In this topic you'll investigate the effects of static electricity and then move onto looking at the key ideas in electric circuit theory. You'll learn about the ways of connecting components together and the measurements which can be made.
Light
Light is a wave (like sound) and you will use it to investigate wave properties like reflection and refraction and then learn about how coloured light can be created from white light.
