Physics in S3
In S3 pupils opt to take at least one of the three core Sciences - Biology, Chemistry and Physics.
Physics is taught in line with the Broad General Education (BGE), as designated by Education Scotland. In S3 we cover the following topics:

Electricity
Waves
Properties of Matter
This course is intended to cover a range of BGE outcomes but also to fully prepare for the Nationals.

Dynamics
We are surrounded by movement and rely on being able to move quickly around the world. In this topic you'll study the Physics which measures how things move and explains why they move in this way.
Space
We are a small part of a huge universe. In this topic you will study what we can detect in space and examine the physics which allows humans to reach and survive beyond the Earth’s atmosphere.
Electricity
Our modern world relies hugely on electricity. In this topic you’ll study electric circuits in more depth, look at how the energy is transferred from power stations and study how we access electricity in the home.
Waves
Waves play a huge part in modern communication and in medical diagnosis and treatment. In this topic you’ll expand what you learned last year and learn how physics has allowed us to live longer and allowed us to communicate across the globe.
Properties of Matter
Understanding the physics of matter is essential in many design occupations. In this topic you’ll learn why objects float and how gases act when they are held in a contained space.
