Living in a Democracy
This topic involves learning about the political system in the UK and Scotland, how it works, the role of parliament and why it is important to vote.
Skills such as analysing data and identifying exaggeration will also be introduced.
Human Rights
The class will firstly be introduced to human rights, what they are, why they are important and examples of where people’s human rights are not being met.
We’ll then compare Scotland and China, looking at the differences between the two countries in terms of culture and politics.

USA
Pupils will learn about the political system of the USA as well as factors that cause social and economic inequalities in America. They will also look at immigration, legal and illegal to the USA in order to pursue the American Dream.
Pressure Groups
Pupils will learn what pressure groups do and why they are an important part of democracy, looking at the campaigns and methods used by different pressure groups.
Pupils will then have the opportunity to create a campaign based on a local issue of their choice.
