Moving from Primary to Secondary school is one of the biggest transitions a child will undertake. It is important that each child feels supported and adequately prepared to move on from our primary into secondary school.

Within Langholm & Canonbie Cluster Schools, we are fortunate to be able to offer a high quality, experience rich transition programme which runs from early in the P7 year through to the summer holidays. As the year progresses, the children get to meet some of their new teachers and take part in various curricular themed “workshop” days put on by the Langholm Academy Staff. This allows the children to become familiar with their new teachers but also the physical building of Langholm Academy.

The children also get to take part in an immersive 3-day visit in June. This is where the P7s follow a secondary timetable which really embeds the inner workings of secondary school life.

Due to Covid-19 mitigations, transition has been predominantly virtual for the past couple of years. Children have engaged with virtual tours, online meetings and activities set remotely by the Academy staff.
