Pupil Groups

Article 12 says that every child has the right to express their views, feelings and wishes in all matters affecting them, and to have their views considered and taken seriously.

At Langholm Primary, all pupils are part of a Pupil Group.

Our pupil groups provide children with meaningful opportunities to develop leadership skills, contribute to school improvement, and make a positive difference within our school and wider community. Through collaboration, creativity, and teamwork, pupils take an active role in helping Langholm Primary School continue to be a place where everyone can thrive.

Rights Respecting School / Pupil Council

Our Rights Respecting School and Pupil Council Group gives children a voice in shaping school life. Pupils work together to share ideas, represent their classmates and help make positive changes across the school. The group promotes children's rights, encourages active citizenship, and helps ensure that every pupil feels listened to, valued, and respected.

Eco Group

The Eco Group helps our school care for the environment and develop sustainable practices. Pupils lead projects to reduce waste, improve biodiversity, save energy, and encourage everyone to make environmentally friendly choices. Through their work, children learn that they can make a real difference to both their school and the wider world.

Sports Group

The Sports Group promotes health, wellbeing, and physical activity throughout the school. Pupils help organise sporting events, encourage participation, and share ideas for active play and healthy lifestyles. The group aims to ensure that all children have opportunities to enjoy being active and develop a positive attitude towards fitness and wellbeing.

Wider Achievement Group

The Wider Achievement Group celebrates the many successes and talents of our pupils both in and out of school. Children work together to recognise achievements, inspire others, and create opportunities for pupils to share their skills, interests, and accomplishments. The group helps build confidence and encourages every child to recognise their strengths.

Equality Group

The Equality Group promotes inclusion, fairness, and respect for everyone within our school community. Pupils explore issues such as diversity, stereotypes, and discrimination, helping to create a welcoming environment where everyone feels valued. Through campaigns and activities, the group encourages kindness, understanding, and positive relationships.

Digital Group

The Digital Group supports the development of digital skills and responsible technology use across the school. Pupils explore new technologies, promote online safety, and help other learners build confidence in using digital tools. The group encourages creativity, innovation, and digital citizenship in a rapidly changing world.

Sustainability Group

The Sustainability Group focuses on creating a better future for people and the planet. Pupils learn about the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and lead projects that address social, environmental, and economic issues. Through their work, they develop knowledge, leadership skills, and a sense of responsibility for making positive change locally and globally.

House Captains

Our Primary 7 pupils have the opportunity to be a House Captain.  House Captains and Vice House Captains work to represent our 3 houses; Esk, Tarras and Wauchope. The house captains all write and present a speech to all the pupils in their house. They are then voted in. They encourage their house teams each week to gain house points. The weekly winning team gets their colour on the cup which is presented in our assembly on a Friday. They help out with events throughout the school year such as having extra responsibilities in assembly and supporting pupils to share their views and opinions.

The House Captain role is particularly important during our sports day when they work to encourage their teams.
