Relationships, Sexual Health and Parenthood (RSHP) Education

RSHP stands for Relationships, Sexual Health and Parenthood. It is an important part of Health and Wellbeing within Scotland’s Curriculum for Excellence and is taught in an age and stage appropriate way throughout primary school. RSHP helps children develop the knowledge, skills and confidence they need to build healthy, respectful and positive relationships with others. In primary school, learning can include friendships, kindness and respect, feelings and emotions, understanding personal boundaries and consent, keeping safe, recognising trusted adults, changes to the body as children grow, different types of families, and learning about where babies come from. We use the national RSHP resource to provide consistent, engaging and appropriate learning experiences for our pupils. The aim is not simply to provide information, but to help children develop confidence, resilience, respect for themselves and others, and the ability to make safe and informed choices as they grow. RSHP is delivered sensitively and in partnership with parents and carers, who play an important role in supporting their child’s learning at home.
