The Music department is an exciting, fun and inclusive environment where everyone is very welcome. The teacher Miss Baxter opens the department to all pupils during break and lunch times. There are study support sessions once a week after school in terms 3 and 4 for those undertaking certification in music.
We are currently expanding our community links including with the Buccleuch centre and Xcel Project. Every year pupils put on a show independently at the Buccleuch Centre, from performing or managing the lighting and sound to fundraising and ushering.
Recent funding through the Funder's Forum (see funders involved below) has allowed the department to deliver more digital literacy within music, including sound recording, mixing and editing sound as well as composition using IT. In May 2024, S2 and some senior music students are going to see a Musical at the King's Theatre, Glasgow thanks to funding through the Funder's Forum as well as fund raising by the pupils.
Instrumental Lessons
Pupils from P5 to S6 can apply for free weekly instrumental lessons for Woodwind, Strings, Brass, Guitar or Percussion. Lessons take place within the school day and usually work on a rotation, to avoid the same subject being missed every week.
Pupils who want to undertake National 5 and above should apply for these lessons BEFORE they reach S4.
